NY New York and Security

March 7, 2012

I was so surprised by the data I found on New Jersey, that I thought I would give New York a chance. I’ve always been afraid of New York, mainly because so many current TV shows take place there and some of them are truly graphic. And even though I know, deep down, humans are the same no matter on the Earth they reside; TV sure makes it seem that there are a lot of crazy people there. I’ll quit delaying. I give you home security New York.  All of my fears are false. According to the FBI, last year there were 335 burglaries for every 10,000 people. 3%! That’s a 3% chance of being victim to a burglar. When I read that I was blown out the water. New York is the 3rd highest state in the nation population wise and it ranks number 48 out of 51 for burglaries. That is utterly amazing to me.Now I’m not going to rush out and buy a home in New York (although the proximity to Broadway puts it high on my list of retirement states), and even if I did buy a home, I would invest in a New York home security system, but those numbers really surprise me. I always knew I couldn’t trust the TV.

Burglar’s Phone Leads to Arrest

November 7, 2011

Gabriel Cruz returned home this week to find his house had been robbed. While taking inventory of what had been stolen for the police, he found an iPhone that he did not recognize. Realizing this could belong to the suspect, Cruz informed police.

Police immediately collected the phone as evidence. Cruz was right, the phone did in fact belong to the burglar and investigators were able to trace it right to his address. Nicholas Riisager was taken in for questioning in connection with the home burglary. Not only did the iPhone lead police to the burglar, but in doing so, they were also able to recover Cruz’s stolen property including his Xbox and his mother’s jewelry.

Riisager was able to gain access to the home through a first story window. While police searched the home and dusted for fingerprints, the iPhone was just what they needed to find the thief. Nothing makes a case easier then when a burglar leaves behind something as personal as their cell phone. With that in their arsenal the case was easily solved.

Thankfully, police were able to recover all of Cruz’s possessions. However, not everyone is so lucky. It’s important to always shut and lock all doors and windows before leaving your home. Even if you’re only going to be gone for a short time, a burglar only needs a matter of minutes to access your home. With no security system in place, a thief can get away with thousands of dollars and no one will know until it’s too late.
